Oh hey there!
I’m Kate, and I am so glad you stopped by!

For Context is essentially a place to explore the different parts of me that make up the colorful chaos of my life, with context! Context is very important to any story!!

I am a creator with big feelings, who best understands the world through working with my hands and words.

I am in a bit of an existential crisis at the moment—I have quit three consecutive jobs in the past year and am vocationally lost af!! I have worked in the service/non-profit field for the past 15+ years, which has left me burnt out and with not much more to give. (Enneagram 2, anyone?) I am choosing to tRuSt tHe pRoCeSs and work towards finding a more balanced, creative path, but letting go of stability is one of the most painful goodbyes in my life. Ouf!!

Making/creating/piecing together fabric art mimics the making/creating/piecing I am doing in my own life. We are picking up and playing with the scraps. Letssssgoooo!

More about me:

I was born and raised in Farm Culture—hard work, sacrifice, practicality, connection to the land and community, creative problem solving. My entire family still lives on the family farm in western Oklahoma and I love to go home to visit, and return with a car full of produce and canned goods!

My roots also include a strong Mennonite heritage and faith. I now consider myself a “deconstructed ex-vangelical” and am still working through the need for external authority, performative humility, and other wounds from late 90’s mainstream christian culture. Cool cool coool.

My partner, Ross, and I are childfree by choice. We are also both makers, and our favorite thing to do is parallel play in our Genesis Pod (our basement/creator space).

I’m interested in plants, fat liberation, accessibility, collaboration, nature, energy, balance, life transitions, deep connections, joy, and energy as a resource.

And, also, scraps. Very interested in scraps. Let me know if you have any scraps you want to share. Of any kind. Love them.

I’m glad you’re here. Join along the chaotic journey, if you’d like!
